Microwave Remote Sensing of the Earth's System

The volume is a collection of extended versions of the papers given at the Microwave Remote Sensing Symposium (IAMAP) of the XIX IUGG General Assembly, held in Vancouver, Canada, August 9-22, 1987. The papers deal with the theory of radiative transfer, with an intercomparison of three important forward models, and with applications to two major future space experiments - the Microwave Limb Sounder on Upper Air Research Satellite for trace gases monitoring in the middle atmosphere and the Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit on the TIROS-NEXT US operational weather satellites.

  • Atmospheric Transmittance Modeling in the Submillimeter Region
  • Radiative Transfer and Retrieval Theory for the 183-GHz Water and Ozone Channels on MLS
  • Simulation of the Effect of a Realistic Cloud Field on the AMSU Measurements
  • The Incorporation of Inversion Characteristics Into Ground-Based Microwave Temperature Soundings: A Simulation Study
  • The Influence of the Vertical Structure of Humidity on the Retrieval of Total Water Vapor Content Over the Oceans by Microwave Radiometry From Space
  • Errors in Satellite Rainfall Estimation Due to Nonuniform Field of View of Space borne Microwave Sensors
  • Microwave Remote Sensing of Atmospheric Water Vapor and Cloud Liquid Water Over Equatorial Western Pacific Ocean With A Ship borne Duel-Wavelength Radiometer
  • Microwave Radiometer Remote Sensing of Atmospheric Sounding, Oil Slick, and Soil Moisture
  • Ship-based Passive Microwave Observations in the Western Weddell Sea During the Winter and Early Spring
  • Dual Doppler Radar Analysis of the Marine Mixed Layer During a Cold Air Outbreak Over a Strong Sea Surface Temperature Gradient
  • Study of Tall Convective Storms in North India During Summer
